A few weeks ago my 1999 Ford Escort, 4Cyl, Manuel stalled after being driven less then 100 miles. It cooled and started again and made almost the rest of the way home before doing the same thing. Mind you, I live in Nevada where temps have been over 100 for almost 2 months now. When it stalled the second time, a friend poured cool water on all the sensor points and coil pack. It started and made it the rest of the way home. He said replace the coil pack, it may be shutting off when it gets to warm. We replaced it. Its now stalled 3 more times but will restart after each cool down period and run up to about 20 miles (my drive to work). We also replaced plugs, and I'm also getting a rich fuel smell from it on occasion. Also while under normal driving conditions the engine "jumps" as if you were about to run out of gas, but not as severe. Just enough you can feel a jerking motion then it will stop after a few minutes and start again. Usually worse when its hot and the air is on. Any suggestions? I've tried doing the little stuff first now I'm at a stale mate. I think its one of the sensors because it will start and run after the cold water is poured over the sensors, but I can't figure out which one? Autozone suggested the ignition coil. Thank you!
