I knew there were several things that needed to be fixed on my car, but weren't serious or dier. I took my car down to the shop I get my oil changes at and they had a long list of things for me to replace or fix.
I explained to him that I was only trying to get to my destination safely and that I had another car waiting for me there. He told me that my water pump was leaking, and that it was very serious, he told me it would be dangerous to go on a long drive and that I would end up on the side of the road. This repair is over $400 and coming up with the money, especially while being in the process of moving will be extremely difficult and I'm not sure if at all- possible.
He explained that I can't just fill it with water or coolant at every stop because you can't take off the water cap until the car has cooled all the way down, so there would be no temporary fixes. I told him I had NEVER had a problem with my car even slightly overheating, even for hour-long drives and he said that it is not typically a problem in every-day city driving.
What I really need to know is if there is any way of driving 1400 miles over a 2 day period safely without this water pump "exploding". Once I'm there, that is all I care about.
Should I risk trying to get there, and watching my temperature gage? Won't I know if it starts to even get a little hot? Is there a way of safely monitoring it?
Or do I HAVE to get this fixed to get there?
I really need some opinions, I know there are no real hard fact answers anyone can give me, I just want opinions.
