Engine Performance problem
1995 Ford Escort 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I replaced my 1.9 l motor with a used 1992 70,000 mile motor. It seems to idle ok and starts good but as soon as I put any sort of load on the accelerator or motor it hesitates and lopes bad. I cn bearly keep it running when I put it in gear. Since it was a 95 and I put a 92 in it I used all the old manifold parts, sensors, connectors, etc from the bad 95 motor. I also replaced the timing belt and waterpump. Any ideas? Thanks alot

Possible Causes of Engine Hesitation or Stumble:

Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this).
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

Dirty or worn spark plugs
Bad plug wires
Weak ignition coil
Wet plug wires
