Ford Escort LX 1995 126000 miles

The car was leaking, what seemed to me to be coolent, but didn't fix it. Yes, typical female who does not know too much about cars. Just the basics. Anyway.I kept refilling the coolent and left it. Last time I had the oil changed, the guys made a note "leaking from all over." My husband thoroughly enjoys making fun of me about it. He wants me to get a new car. I am attached to the booger (ugly green color). Sooooo. As of lately, when the car is idleing, it smells REALLY bad in the car. The smell of exhaust is so strong when I stop at a light or stop sign, etc, that I have been driving with my windows cracked and getting sleepy. I replaces the entire muffle/exhaust system about three years ago; however, I do live in WI with the snow/salt. The car has gotten slightly louder, but not even comparable to my past muffler experiences. Any suggestions? Do I repair my BOOG, or succumb to my husband and buy a new car?

Well I will make no comment about whether booger should die or not. However, new exhaust systems as usually not that good. The real killer of exhaust systems is not the weather but rather the moisture in the car engine trying to get out every morning. Short drives are so hard on the exhaust system because the moisture does not get out and sits in the system causing it to rust.

"Leaking from all over" is a comment I would want to know more about. Is it leaking exhaust from all over or coolant. Before I deal with the failing exhaust I would determine where the coolant is going. For instance, is the coolant leaking from a radiator, hose or water pump? Or is it being burned in the vehicles engine? Find out the coolant problem and you should be able to make a better decision on whether to keep booger alive.

1995 Ford Escort

I had posted a question previously about my ford escort that smells like exhaust inside the cabin. I did receive a reply, but I have new information. I am a teacher at a high school and had an "autos" class look at it. I was told that there is a tube that is disconnected, but they don't know where it is coming from or what it should be connected to. I am told that it seems as if the tube is expelling hot air, and the hot air is pushing through into my car. OK. That was it. Does this sound like anything to you that you can think of? They tried to look it up on the internet, but ran out of time. Again, this is a group of high schoolers.
