I was comikng up to a stop light, pushed in the clutch to downshift and the engine died.
I knew what had happened as I heard the ill-fated sound of ignitionthrough an exhaust port - timing belt.
Towed the car home, looked through the timing belt cover while my son tapped the starter and confirmed timing belt failure.
I don't feel that there is valve damage as the engine RPMs were relatively low during the event.
After following all the web instructions, I am to the point of removing the crank pulley and removing the stripped belt.
My questions are as follows:
1.) How does one remove the crank pulley bolt and pulley/harmonic balance?
I have tried using my 1/2" pneumatic impact driver set to counterclockwise but the bolt will not loosen. I have pumped up the compressor to 125 psi but cannot get the bolt loose.
2.) I believe I read to rotate the crank 2x (720 degs) before aligning the crank to TDC marks on both main pulley and notched bracket.
If I align the main crank with the cam pulley (notch to center-punched dot), everything should be aligned properly?
