1985 Ford Escort Where is the thermostat?

I followed the top radiator hose to the engine, where I was told the thermostat would be. I do not see it. Please let me know if I am blind or if it is in a wierd spot on this vehicle.

It's in the top radiator hose at the engine end of the hose. have to remove thermostat housing to access the thermostat itself.. pic below..
