Engine Mechanical problem
1996 Ford Contour 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My timing belt has been hitting the top cover of the timing belt enclosure. I suspet its something with the tensioner. Can I spray some belt dressing on it to buy me some time so I can save up enough money to fix this?

Get this repaired ASAP. If the belt snaps your engine will be damaged and cost $$ to repair?

Its not the belt, the belt looks brand new and it has been making this noise since late august.

If you do not get this repaired your running the risk of serious damage to the engine that will cost a lot more than just having the belt & tensioner replaced. If the tensioner is faulty your running the risk of the belt slipping off or just the tensioner failing altogether and letting the belt go loose which will damage valves/pistons

I had the same issue at 122000 miles. The belt was intact but very frayed and just begging to break. The tensioner was damaged and tearing up the belt. This is not a repair to hold off on. My only clue was a consistent but audible click from the frayed belt hitting in the timing cover. Sounded much like a bunch of click pens clicking at once.
