Hello, I have a 1988 Ford Full Size Bronco with 209,568 miles and a 5.0 liter EFI engine. My windshield wipers quite working on the intermitent and slow settings, but they would work on fast. I would gently tap/slap underneath the dash where the switch is located and they would come on during the intermitent or slow settings. Then they stopped working altogether, except on fast.

Thinking it was the switch, I replaced it with a new Motocraft switch. However, that did not fix the problem. I was told by a mechanic that it was the wiper motor govenor causing the problem. The repairs seemed to be quite costly.

Could you please confim that the problem is a wiper motor govenor? And if so, where is it located, i.E, on the motor assembly or inside the motor itself?

Thank you,
Bronco Texas

I know on the Taurus, the wiper governor, known as the wiper control module, is located to the right of the steering column, on a bracket. You may be able to trace to it by sound, check around there for yours, I'm not too familiar with trucks. There are a series of tests to run to confirm the wcm if all other parts test out good. My son's wipers were acting up in intermittent mode, replaced the multi-function switch fixed his problem, however the wcm can also fail. Good luck
