i have a broken rearward shock on the front passenger side. I just need to know what i'm getting in to. It is not attached at the top so I just have to unbolt the bottom of it, I think, to get the old one off. Is there anything I need to do to get the new one on, other than just bolting it in? Thank you!

The biggest mistake do-it-yourselfers make is overtightening the top nut. That will squish the rubber bushing too much leading to early failure. Tighten the nut just enough until the rubber bushing expands to the same diameter as the steel washers above and below them.

Don't tighten the lower bolt until the truck is sitting on the tires. If it is jacked up, with the suspension hanging down when you tighten the bolt, when you let it down, the bushing will be in a permanent twist. That too will lead to early failure of the lower bushing.
