Hi Chris,
Do you know what color the smoke was?
This will help identify it. If it where darker in color like black or grey, then this was fuel. Additional fuel from flooring it would cause this color smoke because the additional fuel is not getting burned and it forced it through to the exhaust and was burning off the converter for a few minutes then it stopped.
If it was white smoke then this was coolant getting into the engine and getting burned off. This is unlikely because if it were a head gasket, more than likely it would not have stopped after five minutes.
If it were blue in color, then it was oil. This is possible because when you floor it and the RPM increases you could have had some oil blow by then this would get burned off through the engine as well.
My guess is fuel and secondarily it was oil. Either way, if the engine is not making any noise and functioning normally, then I would not worry about it. Clearly flooring the vehicle is not the best thing for it but doing it one time should not do any damage.
As for getting more power, there is a world of aftermarket parts that will help in that area. However, the Kia Soul was not produced to set any speed records so I would not hold my standards too high.
