And the gear shifter locks up and won’t move from park. These problems are happening off and on. Eventually I can get the car going again but it keeps happening.

You have an issue with the key interlock solenoid. When this happens, sometimes you can push the shifter "further" into park and it will release the key. Basically there is a switch in the shifter that tells the computer when the vehicle is in park and the solenoid releases the key. This switch in the shifter sticks sometimes and does not tell the computer it is in park and you will not be able to remove the key.

Next time this happens push the shifter further up (assuming you have the column shift) and see if the key releases. If it does then this is the issue. If not, let me know and we can dig further but this is pretty common on these vehicles.

Thank you Kasekenny1, I will try this and check it out. The D also flashes as I’m driving, and prior to this issue, sometimes the car would rev when shifted into other gears? Like it’s in neutral? Not sure if this is a separate problem or connected to the key interlock solenoid.

This could be related. Since this is flashing you more than likely have some codes in the system for the transmission. Normally the cause of this is a transmission range sensor. If you have codes in the system for this then I would fix that first and see if it repairs both issues. It is less likely but the range sensor can cause the key to not come out because the range sensor is what tells the ECM what gear it is in. If this does not say park then the shift interlock will not release and the D will flash.

Let's pull codes first and go from there. Thanks
