Hi,
If you are taking a 500 mile trip, I would suggest having both of these items corrected. More than likely you would be okay but the problem is, once the axle boots are compromised, they don't get any better. It is only a matter of time because the CV axles fail. Normally they will start to make noise and click before they fail but again, this is not something I would personally risk because they are going to need to be replaced sooner or later and having an issue on a long trip is the last thing you want to happen.
As for the clock-spring, I would have that replaced as well because when the airbag light is on, the airbags are disabled. If going on a trip, I would want to make sure these are working properly. I would assume that they have open circuit codes for the air bag which would indicate the clock-spring. However, the other steering wheel controls have their own winding on the clock-spring so they could still be working and the airbag is not.
Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks
