Faulty trunk lock

The trunk lock lately is not opening easily. Sometimes it has taken many flicks of the solenoid (or whatever) to get the lock to open. Yes using both the remote, the glove box button and directly using the boot key. I have "fiddled" with both the actual lock, applied WD-40. And also tried re adjusting the position of the catch on the body, IE I loosened the holding blot and tried a couple of positions. It went good for a while, then went spastic again.
Please any suggestions, I love this old car, but we are both pretty aged.

Sounds like the latch needs to be replaced. The parts inside wear and the release pawls get notched and won't release properly. You might be able to take the latch apart or retrofit one from a different year if you cannot locate a replacement. Things like that are sometimes difficult to find as they are not the common wear parts.
