The light can be on for just about anything. The air leak and surge are likely related but it will take a visual inspection and then a code scan to see what turned the lights on. A basic code reader would show you codes related to the engine, but this could be related to multiple systems so a full scan with a true scan tool would be the better option.

Some of the parts stores will scan for codes for free, but they exist to sell parts not to diagnose the problem, as such they will generally read the code(s) and then start telling you to buy XXXX to fix it. The problem is that many times they are not correct. So, you end up buying more parts and finally give up and take it to a shop, they then need to go through testing just to determine if the "new" parts you installed even function before they can go after the original problem. Yes, there are many cases these days of getting faulty new parts.
