89 Max 2.0 truck, having a major issue after installing a rebuilt short block.
long story short. When cold, engine turns over normal and runs just fine.
THE BAD. After engine reachs normal operating temp. Upon turning the engine off, the motor is to tight to turn over, its is basicly locked.
I even tryed to put a wrench and a pry bar on the crank. Im a big fellow and I cant budge it.
let it cool for a hour or so. Cranks and runs fine.
What the heck is the problem?

** here is what I know, I have drove it 75 miles, I put a real oil preasure gauge in and oil preasure is within spec, no overheating, not a starter issue, I removed the oil filter and cut the outer skin off which revealed no metal at all **

Now, What the heck is wrong. Im at a loss !

If you pull all the spark plugs out, you eliminate any compression. Should be very easy to turn over. Sounds to me when its getting hot, something is binding/seizing up, and may take some disassembly to be certain what it is.

Did anyone ever figure out the issue? My 2.4 is doing the exact same thing. I replaced the starter and it didn’t change anything. But mine don’t have to set too long to restart. Like if I shut it off to order food at drive thru it hesitates to restart. But it will. If I let it set 15 minutes or so it does not even hesitate.

Hi,

Nothing has been left as a repair. What exactly does your vehicle do? Is it possible for you to record what it does and upload it for us to hear? Also, what type of climate do you live in. Is it extremely hot? Is this something that started all at once?

Let me know as much as you can think of that may help.

Take care,
Joe
