Hyundai has issued a recall for vehicle listed above due to a ECU issue causing pre ignition resulting in engine damage, car fires or engine failure.
The recall number is 182.
The exact wording from the recall is:
the engine management software installed on the engine electronic control units (ecu) in the subject vehicles could cause premature ignition of air/fuel mixture in the engine cylinder (pre ignition) pre ignition in an engine cylinder could cause excessive cylinder pressure eventually leading to engine damage.

my car had an engine failure and the error msgs returned by the diagnostic check at my Hyundai dealership gave :
P0300 random multiple cylinder misfire detected P0302 cylinder 2 misfire detected P0304 cylinder 4 misfire detected P0106 manifold absolute pressure circuit range.

Can these error codes be caused by pre ignition as outlined in the recall affecting these cars?

Welcome to 2CarPros.

Honestly, pre-ignition is just that. A spark is delivered to the cylinder earlier than it should. So, I feel that yes, it could be related. If there was damage to valves or rings due to excessive pressure, it will eventually lead to a misfire.

I feel in this case to be sure there isn't internal damage done to the engine, one should check engine compression to make sure all cylinders are within the manufacturer's specs. I suggest that because there are many other things that can cause a misfire. If damage exists, it will show in the engine's compression.

Here is a link that shows in general how to check engine compression:

Let me know if you have other questions.

Take care,
Joe

The response refers to potential internal engine damage. As stated in my question, the car had a complete engine failure resulting in a fist sized hole in the engine casing
