1984, Great year. Love the description, that car is a big "boat" compared to smaller modern cars, I can see needing to paddle to make it go. :-)
Anyway,
First thing to check is fuel pressure. Being a TBI unit you will want to see nine to twelve psi.

I am betting the regulator is faulty, it was not designed for "modern" booze fuel. The alcohol attacks the rubber and makes it fail. Then you get odd reactions when you step on the throttle because the regulator does not increase the fuel output to match.
It is also possible it is the pump itself so the testing should give you an idea at least.
