Hi,
The starter's only purpose is to turn the engine so it can start. Once you release the key, the starter's job is done. A weak battery can cause issues. If that is new, we have a different issue.
When the engine does stall, are you able to restart it right away? Have you noticed any smoke from the exhaust while it is running?
Next, have you checked for diagnostic trouble codes? If not, I recommend it. Most parts stores will do it free of charge, but it doesn't sound safe to drive. Are you able to get your hands on one?

Let me know if that is something you can do. Also, please understand that I'm recommending this because the issue can be the result of a few issues. For example, it could be a low fuel pressure issue or an idle air control valve issue. There are several others as well and scanning it will help focus our diagnostics.
