While driving I heard a grinding, hard knocking sound coming from the engine?

On the way to work. Heard a grinding, hard knocking sound coming from engine. Started seeing smoke coming from the hood. It was white smoke. So I pulled over and saw that there was oil leaking all under the bottom of the engine block looks like coming from the oil pan. I cannot see a hole or anything. Tried turning the car over once again and it started then but is grinding and would shake bad. Now it won’t start and all of the oil has leaked out.

From your description it sounds like engine failure. Either it had a rod failure or similar. To be sure you would need to get under it with a light and look for the hole or other failure point. The only repair would be to replace the engine. Either with a remanufactured or a used one from a salvage yard.
