I got in car one day to see the engine check light was on. Freaked out a little I must say. Then I went on Ford pass app to see that it registered on there as well. It read, problem with evaporative emissions system. After about 20 minutes of short errands, it went off, and has remained off for 1 week so far, but worried. Looking through Google it seems I may likely have issue with the purge valve? It may make sense because over the past 6 months or so my milage per km is sitting around 12.5 and should be around 8.0. So, losing milage somewhere, thought age 2018 but not sure. I did do YouTube and saw how to test this valve before totally removing it, but I can't find a diagram to show me where this thing is on my car year.
Any feedback at all would be helpful. Not at all looking to pay someone to fiddle around for $150.00 an hour. Also note, about 3 weeks ago I was rear ended and had tail gate replaced and painted not sure if this info is valid or not.

Was there a specific code that lead you to think it was the purge valve? I ask because there are several different things that can set an EVAP code. A loose gas cap and cause it or an engine vacuum leak in the system.

I wouldn't assume the purge valve is the issue unless you have a specific diagnostic code. This can be retrieved using a scan tool. Here is a link showing how it's done:

Now, the idea that you were hit in the rear of the vehicle can be something to check. The evap canister vent valve is in the rear of the vehicle. Keep in mind, it may be a vacuum hose that is damaged or disconnected, so make sure to check that first. (See pic below)

If you have a specific diagnostic trouble code, let me know what it is. If the light is remaining off, you may need to wait for it to return before testing for codes.

Let me know what I can do to help.

Take care,

Joe
