The automatic emergency brake is in the locked position and will not release. Tried removing the static charge and it worked for a while then locked up again. The emergency brake release is free to move. Anchors and cables are free, fuse checked. Brake actuator I do not know how to troubleshoot.

It sounds like the internal valve has a leak inside the APB system. Here are some guides to help you replace the unit and get the car fixed.

Check out the diagrams (Below)

Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

Cheers, Ken

Parking brakes stick after sitting for a week or more. The only way to release brakes is keep shifting from park to drive until parking brakes release itself. This has been happening for about six months. I am just now beginning to become concern because I feel the time is near when I am out some where and the brakes will not release.

Have you checked all cables to make sure they are not rusted and sticking?

I checked the cables, all were OK. Once I allow the car to run for a while and switch from park to reverse the brakes normally release.

I have another question. Are you in an area that it is cold? Just wondering if heat from the engine is warming something.

Hi,
Will now share how I fixed it myself.
I took off the cables to battery for 15 min and put back again and that way "restarted" the electronic system (had to find code for radio)and then I could release handbrake. I then took away fuse to handbrake so it will not get stuck again this winter. I have a manuel gearbox so I´ll just park in gear.
