It should be possible to make an extension harness and add a new switch in a spot you can reach. I would add the new switch in place of the original. It is not a simple switch though, there are 10 pins on the switch, GM (23386912) so I would likely get the switch and maybe a harness pigtail from a salvage yard and determine where you can mount the switch then extend the wires on the pigtail, so it reaches. I would say you could wire it in parallel but it's a somewhat "smart" switch and one could override the other because of the automatic release of the switch in normal use.
You may want to talk to a dealer about the wiring, there might be an OE solution or at least a harness option that would make it easier to relocate.
