Electrical issue after dealership replaced battery

The dealer said I needed a new battery, which they replaced. Since then the gauges go nuts bouncing back and forth, the car will not go forward when you initially press the accelerator. The AC does not work initially when you turn it on. Then it runs fine, though the speedometer and tachometer bounce back and forth. Service light comes on, stable-track light is on.

They have had it back three times to repair this and now say it is transmission related.

Any ideas?

Good afternoon.

Lets start with the fault code stored for the check engine light.

As far as the transmission, when was the last time you change the oil/filter in the transmission?

Hi Roy,

Less than a year on the transmission maintenance. The car was running great, until the battery job. I was surprised that they said it needed a new one. After they installed the new battery was when all the electrical issues started. I think so etching got fried when they put the new battery in.

It is possible but we need to start somewhere. That is why I need the code.

We did the OnStar diagnostics while it was happening. They sent an email saying the code was U0401.

Okay, I am beginning to wonder if they made a mistake when installing the battery. If they crossed the cables momentarily, voltage surge could have caused all this.

The code is for the ECBM or the ABS brake module.

None of this makes any sense from a simple battery replacement.

Did I mention we would get a “Stable-track” appear on the dash?
Try telling a GM mechanic that they made a mistake putting in the battery. In fact try telling them they made any mistake! Haha!

I agree. They will never own up to it.

You need to have someone else look at this to check it for you as a second opinion.
