I tried to get car smogged but EGR module hasn't reset. Drove 200 miles, same result. Drove 30o miles, freeway and stop and go, same result. I took the car to Hyundai dealer they refused to help, wouldn't even do a diagnostic because I was wanting repairs in order to get the car smogged and they aren't smog certified. Finally took the car to a smog test and repair garage. They have a Dynamometer and have run through the drive cycle daily for a week plus additional driving on the street and after a week it still has not reset. They are going to try for 1 more week but if they can't get the unit to reset so they can smog test, is my only option then to junk this car? I'm just sick about having to junk this car with so few miles but in California I don't know what else I can do.

Please don't junk the car, we can fix it. The one reason for the monitors not to set is a bad thermostat. Please check out this guide to help as well and I have included how to change the thermostat out correctly.

If the thermostat is removed and it is stuck open this will be the problem. Also did they scan the system for codes?

Check out the images (below). Let us know how it goes.

Is this something I should ask the Smog Test and Repair shop to do? This is California so I'm not sure if my regular mechanic will want to do it because he isn't a smog certified shop.

Thank you for the info. I'll pass it along and hope it fixes the problem!
And I apologize for all the typos!

Yep, I would run the codes anyway to see if any are stored, the computer might not pick up the thermostat problem. The thermostat replacement can be done by a normal repair shop. And they can run the codes as well. Please let me know what they find.
