I bought this car on the 9th of December worked fine the first day, did not drive for two days and battery was flat on the 11th of December. Battery was flat so replaced it. After replacing battery drove the car but broke down. Brought it to the mechanic, mechanic diagnosed a faulty crankshaft sensor and replaced car still would not start, new battery was also flat after two days. Mechanic suspects an ECU fault. Got a replacement battery and battery has not been drained but car will not start. Do you think that the ECU is draining the battery? Could the car have had the issue before the purchase?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Good morning,

It is possible but the ECU is one of many components that can cause the drain.

I attached a guide on how to check the parasitic draw test for draining the battery.

These checks were performed by me first and also later by a mechanic. However none of these errors were found. The dealer is denying me a refund as the car was running when it was sold to me and the fault occured while I was using the car.

What were the results of the checks?

What was the current draw on the battery?

I did not have access to a voltmeter so I just checked around for anything that may have been left on. The mechanic pulled out fuses to check for a draw. He did not tell me what the draw was he just said that the ECU was faulty and that is why the battery was draining. After driving the car he said that the ECU could have overheated and led to the non - runner issue.

Does not sound right at all. Sounds like a guess.

I suggest you get another opinion. This does not sound right at all.

I am in the process of rejecting the car but the dealer will not accept as it is a non - runner. It is his own mechanic that diagnosed the problem.

Another question.
Is it possible for a battery to just randomly drain after two days? The dealer is claiming that the car was fine before I bought it.

No, something has caused it to drain. If you leave the car alone, the battery should hold for about two weeks.

I do not know what to tell you about the refund. It depends on your contract.
