I get a P0191 code when cold engine is first started and stays on until I clear it. If I clear the code when engine is warm it will stay off as long as the engine does not cool right down even if I stop and start it numerous times. But then when the engine has cooled right down the code comes back and stays until cleared again. The code can be cleared but returns until the engine warms up at which point it says off if cleared. This is a new body style truck.

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0191 stands for “Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit “A” Range/Performance.” This happens when the fuel pressure sensor goes out here is the location so you can replace it. Check out the diagrams (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

Before I purchase this sensor can you tell me how or why the temperature would have an effect, setting the code on when cold, and not setting on when warm?

The sensors can be heat sensitive which is normal or the can try to reset once power is removed and then restarted.

Well, I replaced the fuel rail pressure sensor and the code went out for about 15 seconds and now have the exact same problem. The P0191 code comes back even after erasing it several times. Obviously something else is going on. Any suggestions?

Okay we need to check the connection between the sensor and the PCM if they are okay the PCM is bad. Here is a guide to help with the engine wiring diagrams below:
