My 2001 GMC Sonoma has had the door pins replaced by my dealer while still under the warranty. Since then I had to have my mechanic replace them at least twice. The last time he did so he said the hinges to the door are peeling off. Some kind of adhesive was used to put door hinges on a vehicle! Makes me wonder about new cars even today. Anyways I am tired of the issues with this door to point I wish I could afford a new truck. This truck is a great vehicle and is very dependable. A body shop cant fix it for like 1200 bucks. They agreed with my mechanic that the door hinges need taken off and welded or bolted back on but the problem is the door where it latches shut all the parts are messed up and I come to find there is a plastic gear in there. Why would GM put plastic parts and glue hinges on a truck door? Is there any chance there could be a recall and GM might fix these things? Is there anyways this can be fixed with little cost? Also it has caused the door panel to get busted now twice. I hope someone can help. Thank you.

I hate to say it, but you are dealing with the same problem that thousands of S10 truck owners go through. The pins wear out and the door sags. As far as the hinge's attachment to the truck body, it should have been welded from the factory. If it is coming off, there is nothing you can do but have it re-welded to the body. However, I will say that 1200 dollars sounds extremely high to do the work. (But I don't know where you are).

Don't expect a recall from GM regarding this problem. It hasn't happened since they started making the S10 and the problem was always there.
