What you did is actually a common procedure used by transmission shops. The vibration can free up sticking shift valves. As long as you're going fast enough, the parking pawl will not drop into a notch on the rotating component and no permanent damage will result. Park on a small incline, then put it in park. If the truck rolls away when you take your foot off the brake, the parking pawl is broken. That could cause a noise if it hits the notches on the rotating drum.
If the noise you're hearing now occurs while you're not moving, it has nothing to do with the transmission. Have someone look at it and listen for where the noise is coming from. By "winding", do you mean "whining"? If so, the power steering pump would be a likely place to start looking.
