What is the temperature on your temp gauge reading? If indeed the fluid is that hot, there are a few things you should check. Are you loosing fluid? Is your water pump working? Is the cooling fan in front of your radiator working when it is that hot?
In all vehicles, the thermostat is there to speed up the time it takes for your engine to heat up. The water pump is there to flow the water thru the system. The radiator is there to cool the water, and the fan is there to limit the top end temperature of the coolant. If it is getting too hot, I would check the fan first. If that is working properly, then it may vary well be the radiator has lost its effectivness. A flush may help, but if the radiator is that bad, a new one may be what is needed.
If you are loosing fluid, that opens the door to a whole new set of problems.
