1997 Dodge Stratus Engine dies while driving.

My 1997 dodge stratus dies while I'm driving it. While I was driving the battery light came on and then about 10 seconds later the guages started going crazy and then stopped working. Then the car started to sputter like I was out of gas and died.

I'm able to jump start the car but when I take the jumper cables off it dies. Also the first time it happened I was able to jump start it and it ran for about 5 miles before stalling on me.

You either have a bad battery or a bad alternator. Can you get the vehicle to a parts store to have both checked?
