At speeds over 25 mph, the speedometer needle begins to bounce erratically. The faster I go the more erratic it becomes - until I get down below 25 mph. There is also a lot of noise that seems to be coming vrom the rear of the instrument panel.

I just wanted to confirm that I am replacing the speedometer cable not the actual speedometer.
Thanks

Because you can hear a noise behind the cluster. You will need to check the cable and fixings at the rear of the instrument cluster.
