What is this tapping noise in my 2500 5.7L hemi v8 mega/slt/larime cab truck? Just started happing after a oil change. I tried changing to a heavier oil (10-30) then I added a lucas engine treatment bottle. And the tapping is still there, however somewhat better, with lack of noise. My oil light has never come on and all my gauges are working. When I drive or acelerate it sounds as if it goes away. After I drive for a period of time and then park and idel the tapping will return only not as pronounced. This is not a loud tapping however ENOUGH to cause me alarm with possible major engine repair. Thank you

Is it coming from the top of the engine or can you hear it better under the truck?

I can hear it more under the truck and it sounds more like a light gurgling sound rather than a tapping sound. Oh by the way I changed my oil twice and used the recommended 5w-20 oil. Its still there, not loud but enough for me to hear it or a trained ear too. I think it may be the rear lifters?

Do you change your oil every 3,000 miles? If not, you may have sludge built up on your oil pump screen not allowing suffiecent oilflow at startup, and that could be causing your lifter noise.

I know the noise. It almost sounds like an exhaust leak type tapping noise. It is very common on the hemi, but exactly what is causing it is yet unknown. I will say it usually starts around 30K and even at 150K never changes or causes problems.
