My truck is spitting/sputtering/backfiring occassionally. Check engine light came on, code guys said intake gasket bad and would be $500. I just had a new engine put in 1 year ago (long block kit) shouldn't the intake gasket be ok. I had heard that a bad fuel filter could cause same symptoms. Have you heard this or do you have any ideas for better diagnostic before I spend $500. Thanks

well if the light is on, and thats what the code said id say belive it.

Try starting the vehicle and spraying carb cleaner or starting fluid around the base of the manifold, if the idle is changed then you have a leak.

also try spraying hte vaccuum hoses.
