Fuel gage readings are not even close to accurate reads empty whfind en down 10gallons how do I test to problems?

Without checking, I would say the rheostat is bad on the float. It is a common problem. The bad part is it is part of the fuel pump and is in the fuel tank. You would have to remove the pump assembly and check resistance through the rheostat in different positions.
