Hello,
My vehicle has an early morning(cold engine) knocking sound. When I first start it, the knock begins, and if I press the accelerator the knocking will diminish. Once the vehicle warms up, then the knocking goes away. If I wait until about 9am when the sun has warmed it up a little then there is no knocking when I start it. Before I start taking things apart and replacing unnecessary items, can someone identify the problem and solution?
Thank you

I'd try to pinpoint the knock, my hearing is no good, sometimes I use a long shank screwdriver, place the tip against the valve cover, the other end of the shank goes on that bone behind my ear. It seems to magnify the sound, sometimes I can locate where the sounds is coming from before taking anything apart.

Thank you for your reply. As you have indicated, the first and obvious thing to do is locate where the knock is comming from.
