Puting back together a rebuilt enging but during the process parts were moved around now I need to fugure out a pattern of numbers on the camshaft bearing caps there is numbers letters and arrows on top of each one and my question is shuld I try my best choise of pattern. There is four rows of caps and my best choice look like all the boult are fitting right in there, the letter sequance is first row is I's second row is E's third row is I's last row is E's. Numbers run 1-5 in avery row but ther arrows run pointing to the back of the car on the first two rows from on the left head and to the front of the car on the right head. I just hope my interesting explanation makes sence

Hi there,

The cam caps are sequenced, if you don't get them correct you may seize a cam shaft, the E is for Exhaust cam, the numbers are from the front of the engine to the rear. The I is inlet, Now your problem will be knowing which bank they belong to, get this wrong and you may do serious damage, problem is there is no indication as to which bank the caps belong to, you will need to torque the cams up with no valves to check the running clearance of each cam, you won't be able to do this with the valves in place, this is why it is so important to mark every thing first.
