What valve are you talking about? The only "blow-off" valve is on the receiver / drier for the air conditioning system. That's under the hood and it won't cause a smell. The fix is to replace the drier and figure out why the high-side pressure went up too high, then have the system recharged. One possible cause is debris in the condenser preventing proper heat removal from the refrigerant.
