Can you tell me what size socket it takes to remove the nut holding the front rotors in place?

DO NOT touch that axle nut! All you do is remove the caliper and the mount, then if the spring retainers are on two of the lugs, remove them, they look like flat washers. The rotor then just pulls off, if it's stuck due to rust, hit it with a hammer a few times!
