I TOOK MY TRUCK IN FOR A POWER STEERING SWITCH REPAIR. (I HAVE BEEN LUCK WITH ONLY ONE OTHER REPAIR BEING A RADIATOR PUMP). WHEN I PICKED IT UP AND GOT 5 MILES FROM THE PLACE MY OIL PRESSURE FELL TO NOTHING. I STOPPED AND CHECKED THE OIL, IT WAS FULL. I HAD IT TOWED BACK. #1 I HAVE MAINTAINED MY TRUCK BY HAVING FREQUENT OIL CHANGES (EVERY 1500MI), AND TUNE UPS EVERY YEAR AS WELL AS ENGINE FLUSHES EVERY 6 MO. SINCE 80,000 MILES. I WAS NOT HAVING ANY TROUBLE UNTIL I BROUGHT IT IN FOR THE STEERING ISSUE. WHAT DO YOU THINK THE PROBLEM IS AND COULD THE MECHANIC HAVE DONE SOMETHING TO CAUSE IT? I KNOW THE MILEAGE IS HIGH BUT I HAVE DRIVEN 3 PREVIUOS CARS TO OVER 200,000 WITH THE SAME MAINTAINANCE. THE MECHANIC SAYS IT IS THE ENGINE BUT SAID HE CAN'T BE SURE WITHOUT TAKING IT APART. IS THAT TRUE?

HI there,

He should do an oil pressure test with a master gauge, this will give a true indication as to the oil pressure, if the pressure is very low I would be looking at a faulty relief valve or a pump drive problem, this test is very simple, the steering repair would normally not affect the engine oil pressure.
