Engine Mechanical problem
2000 Dodge Durango V8 All Wheel Drive Automatic 249k miles

My son was driving, said the engine made a noise and then smoke from the engine. Oil on the road.
Is the engine blown? Other possibilities?

Can you tell where the oil came from? It could be a bad oil filter, oil plug, or wort case, a rod may have cracked through the engine block. Do you see any indication of that? Also, let me know what kind of noise he heard before this happened.

Oil was from underneath, passenger side. It was a low humming noise then a sound of a crack then the smoke.
All appeared normal from above and did not appear that any crack took place

That is the side the oil filter is on. Check to see if it came from there or the oil sending unit. Also, check the engine block to make sure nothing has damaged it from the inside.
