I recently purchased a 2003 Dodge Dakota V8 and after a month I am hearing a humming noise when excellerating. It constant when speeding up from 25 MPH until about 55 MPH. It doesn't sound like a wheel bearing issue and I was wondering if it could be a problem with the fuel pump. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Hi:
Can you identify where the sound seems to come from? Could it be tires? Could it be coming from the differential, transfercase area or engine compartment?

Let me know.

Hey Joe,

It shounds like its coming from the mid to rear end of the truck. I don't think its tires as it seems to be start when I push the gas and immediatley stops when I let off. I read somewhere that it could be the U-Joint or Rack and Pinion. But I know little about this stuff. Please let me know what you think.

Hi:
Without being there, I would guess that you either have a bad output bearing in the transfer case, or pinion bearing. Also, there is a retaining clip that holds the output bearing in place in the tailshaft of the transfer that may have broken allowing the bearing to make some strange sounds. Check if there is any play (up and down / side to side / in and out) where the drive shaft connects to the differential and where the yoke goes into the transfer case. Let me know what you find.
