I have owned my 2003 dakota quad cab 4x4 since new and now when I put it in four wheel drive it is making an awful clunking and clicking noise in the rear end and it is jerking like it is still trying to get in gear when you first start going or go slow. what might be the problem and is there a fix?

Does the sound only happen in 4wd? Also, does it go away when you are moving fast?

Let me know.

Yes it only happens when I put it in four wheel drive and the jerking and loud clunking go away when you increase speed but it is replaced by a loud humming sound.
