On my daughter's Dodge Colt, I noticed that when it's not in drive, it'll rev-up to 4k just fine, but in drive it'll won't get past 2500. At that point it'll "buck" and hesitate and almost stall. Is it igniton timing? Or is it something else? Also, since I haven't found the service manual yet, please tell me which way to rotate the distributor for "advance" vs. "Retard" adjustment. Thanks in advance.

Hi:
this doesn't sound like a timing issue. However, when you have the timing light on, just move the distributor a little either way to determine direction.

Has the check engine light come on? Have you checked to make sure the catylatic converter is partially plugged? Any vacuum leaks?
