Power Steering Gone or What?

2000 Dodge Caravan, 114,000 miles, v6.

For the past week, there has been a noise upon starting the car. Goes away in about a minute or two. Tonight, I drove the car about two miles and heard a "pop" and lost power steering. Engine was running fine. Could go forward and reverse. No steering, though.

Picked up some fluid hoping I had just run out of fluid. Put it in, let it run for 5-10 minutes and nothing.

Please help. Thanks!

(BTW, I'm having trouble with your paypal form ...)

this is just an educated guess from your statement it sounds like the p/s pumpshaft may have broken internally , this would still allow the pulley to move but the pump would not have pressure , you can do a backyard test by removing the cap and pinch off the high pressure side and if you have fluid blowing out of the pump its ok if no fluid the pump is not pumping and as i said may have broken the pumpshaft internally , oh btw watch you eyes if you do pich a line off it gets messy

thanks
jim

Thanks for your help, Jim. I'm assuming (a dangerous thing, I know) that this is going to be a costly fix. Now, I need to find a mechanic I can trust.
