Whie I was driving down the road I heard a screaching coming fom under the hood thought it could be a belt from the sound of it. Had regular power and it drove fine. The next day it got worse. It didnt make the noise when I started the van only when I got above 15 mph. Upon further inspection I realize it is coming from the transmission it shifts but is now cant get out of its own way. What could the problem be?

Are you sure it is the trans? Is it slipping? Is there anything that changes the sound / pitch such as turns, braking?

No the sound doesnt change only happens when in gear when driving over 15mph and just found out it will do it in Neutral when I hit the gas. At frist it drove fine then the next day while on the highway I was trying to pass someone who stopped suddenly I noticed it didnt want to move fast enough, then it was slowly losing power to want to go.

Does the engine rev but not accellerate? Has the check engine light come on?
