Electrical problem
1999 Dodge Caravan 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Leaving a traffic light the engine stops running. Found blow engine fuse under hood, replaced it. Fuse blows. Looked for loose or fried wires and checked grounds - OK - Unplugged computer beside battery, fuse doesn't blow. Replaced computer with a rebuild, engine cranked up & ran fine for about 6-7 miles then began running weird and began blowing HOT black smoke from exhaust. Parked it and shut 'er down, now engine fuse blows when ignition is turned on. I'm hoping that I haven't trashed the replacement computer. I have since located signs of the wires leading from computer that may have been damaged from manifold heat, but are located on the BACKSIDE of engine and seem impossible to access without disassembly of the half the engine. Are there other issues that might relate to this type of problem? Van had been running great with no signs of problems up until dying. Strange reliability issue to simply have a vehicle to die with no prior indications any problem.

Hi Susan
first you can just remove the fuel pump fuse or relay if this stops fuse from blowing then you know the prob is in the fuel pump circuit. Most likely a bad pump.

As far as the plug look at your fuel tank put your hand up in there you will feel where there is a plug at the center of the fuel tank. Follow the harness to it. This plug will have a lock on it
