So my brother replaced the gasket and a few other things. And in doing so the distributor cap was removed. He replaced it but I think the wires were not put in the correct order or the timing was off. So I have only worked on simple things on my car like the radiator. But can you go into simple numbered steps to putting the spark plug tubes to the correct place on the distributor cap? Also, how do I get the timing right or do I need a machine for that?

This is the same real common firing order for Chrysler and GM V-8 engines since at least as far back as the early 1970's.

To set the timing, the electronic spark advance has to be disabled. To do that, look for the single-wire connector near the distributor, and unplug it. Do not unplug the four-wire connector. Connect an inductive-pickup timing light to spark plug wire number one or six. Loosen the distributor's hold-down bolt, then adjust the timing to the specs on the emissions label under the hood. Tighten the bolt, plug in the plug, then if the check engine light is on after restarting the engine, disconnect the battery for about a minute to erase the diagnostic fault code.
