diesel patrol missing at high revs

My diesel patrol was starting to miss at high revs. When this has happened before in the past i replaced the diesel filter and the problem was solved. Ive replaced the filter this time and the problem has seemed to get worst its now also blowing white smoke when it misses.
What is my next step?

White smoke in a diesel is a sign of incomplete combustion, so check valve clearances and do a comp test start here.
