So, I started having a problem with some dashboard warning lights just randomly coming on and going off. The main lights affected are the ABS, ESP, tire pressure and airbag lights. They come on randomly and then go off randomly. The battery was just recently replaced (6 months ago). Recently the Engine Malfunction light came on and three days later it went off and stayed off.

Any thoughts as to what is causing the phenomenon? Thanks.

Hello,

It sounds like there are intermittent issues that gets detected by the diagnostic system and it is resetting itself when the issue 'disappears'.
This could be due to any number of components, like a faulty sensor, wiring issue, module etc.
The best course of action would be, when those lights get illuminated, scan and retrieve the code(s). That can help you with the diagnostics. As that can point to what is the likely issue. Without that piece of information, it will be difficult to figure out what is going on.

Here are a couple of helpful guides.

Let me know of any questions.
Thank you.

The random appearance and disappearance of multiple warning lights in your 2013 Volkswagen Passat could indicate an electrical issue. Here are a few possibilities to consider:

Loose or Corroded Connections: Check the battery terminals and other relevant electrical connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion. Loose or corroded connections can cause intermittent electrical faults and trigger warning lights.

Faulty Sensors: A malfunctioning sensor related to the ABS, ESP, tire pressure monitoring system, or airbag system could cause the corresponding warning lights to come on intermittently. The sensors may need to be inspected and, if necessary, replaced by a qualified technician.

Wiring Issues: There could be a wiring problem in the vehicle's electrical system, such as a damaged or frayed wire, loose connector, or poor grounding. Wiring issues can result in intermittent electrical faults and trigger various warning lights.

Electronic Control Module (ECM) Malfunction: The Engine Malfunction light coming on and then going off could indicate a temporary issue with the ECM. It's possible that a sensor reading or signal momentarily fell outside the normal operating range, triggering the warning light.
