Creak coming from steering wheel column when I turn the wheel

I have a creaking sound that I hear at low speeds from the steering column. When I turn the steering wheel It sounds like it is coming from just behind the firewall. I have shot some lubricant into this boot at the firewall and it quiets the noise for a period of time but it returns. Do you have an idea of what needs to be replaced to fix this noise. Or should I ignore it as a nuisance? Chrysler LHS 1999

There is a rubber boot at the base of the steering column where it enters the firewall from the passenger compartment.

Check to see if it is a universal type joint. You may be able to get rid of the noise with grease.

I greased the U-joint and it is a bit quieter, but still there. Does this need to be replaced? Or is it a nuisance noise? Not sure how expensive it would be to fix.

Based on your description, it sounds like nothing but a nuisance noise. To replace it would be around 200.00. It will be labor intense.

. Which is why I do not want to attempt this repair on my own. Thanks.
